  • 5 - 8% per cycle, in a natural cycle, for AI with sperm from the partner
  • 10-20% per cycle, with standard treatment, for AI with sperm from the partner
  • 12 - 14% per cycle, for AI with sperm from the donor

Sperm preparation

It aims to select mobile sperm, separate them from semen and other cells (leukocytes, bacteria, immobile sperm), and activate them in a small amount of nutrient medium.

Simple washing is done by diluting the liquefied semen in the culture medium, followed by centrifugation and resuspension in the medium.

The swim-up method allows the migration of sperm by their own movements to the surface of the environment, from where they are recovered, leaving other cells at the base of the container. Normally, the percentage of morphologically normal recovered cells is also higher.

The density gradient method offers a good selection, the sperm having to go through environmental layers with different densities. A small amount of medium with a high concentration of mobile sperm is loaded into the insemination catheter. All this is done at the IUI clinic in Mumbai.
