Artificial insemination involves the processing of sperm by complex methods in the laboratory and its introduction into the uterus. You can use sperm from your partner or donor.

The advantages of artificial insemination:

  • Simplicity of technique
  • Low costs
  • The possibility to be performed monthly

Indications for intrauterine insemination

  1. Minor male pathology
  2. Cervicalinfertility
  3. Infertility without an obvious cause
  4. Anovulation

Before starting the insemination procedures a global evaluation, preconception, and infertility evaluation are needed, in some cases, it is necessary to determine the hormonal profile for both partners.

Artificial insemination is the simplest medical procedure by which processed sperm is inserted directly into the uterus, in order to increase the chance of fertilization.

Artificial insemination is not recommended in case of:

  • Severe tubal obstruction or pathology
  • Premature ovarian failure (Menopause)
  • Severe male pathology
  • Advanced endometriosis
  • Women over 40 years

What are the chances of success?

AI cannot guarantee a pregnancy or the birth of a healthy baby. The success rate of artificial insemination varies considerably, depending on age and the cause of infertility. The average success rate for an AI cycle is:

  • 5 – 8% per cycle, in a natural cycle, for AI with sperm from the partner
  • 10-20% per cycle, with standard treatment, for AI with sperm from the partner
  • 12 – 14% per cycle, for AI with sperm from the donor

The current trend is to combine artificial insemination with superovulation to increase the chances of success. To know the IUI cost in Mumbai, consult the experts of Goralgandhi.

Final maturation and onset of ovulation are achieved by administration of hCG- human chorionic gonadotropin.

Sperm preparation

It aims to select mobile sperm, separate them from semen and other cells (leukocytes, bacteria, immobile sperm), and activate them in a small amount of nutrient medium.

Simple washing is done by diluting the liquefied semen in the culture medium, followed by centrifugation and resuspension in the medium.

The swim-up method allows the migration of sperm by their own movements to the surface of the environment, from where they are recovered, leaving other cells at the base of the container. Normally, the percentage of morphologically normal recovered cells is also higher.

The density gradient method offers a good selection, the sperm having to go through environmental layers with different densities. A small amount of medium with a high concentration of mobile sperm is loaded into the insemination catheter. All this is done at the IUI clinic in Mumbai.

IUI technique

The technique of IUI treatment in Mumbai is simple, painless, and is performed on an outpatient basis. After the special preparation in the laboratory, the sperm is loaded into a special very thin and non-traumatic catheter that will be inserted through the cervix.

The maneuver to insert the catheter and inject the sperm is very fast and painless. No additional measures or restrictions are required after artificial insemination.

After 5-6 cycles with artificial insemination, 30-35% of couples get a pregnancy, after which the changes do not increase significantly with the number of inseminations and IVF is recommended.

To improve the chances of success, as well as in women who do not ovulate spontaneously, it can induce or stimulate drug ovulation.

The production of several mature follicles after stimulation increases the chances of pregnancy, but also those of having multiple pregnancies.
